Montage Hotels & Resorts
In January 2002, Warnick + Company advised on the creation of a new luxury hotel company,
Montage Hotels & Resorts. In conjunction with the Founder and CEO of the company, we developed the business
plan and rationale for the new brand and the initial capitalization through a high net worth individual.
We subsequently orchestrated the acquisition of the company’s first hotel, then under construction: the
Montage Laguna Beach
opened in February 2003 to wide acclaim.
W+C has subsequently served in the lead role in indentifying five new development opportunities, overseeing
due diligence, programming and concept development, structuring the transactions, and negotiating all
relevant transaction documentation for sites in
Beverly Hills, California (pictured);
Sonoma, California; Deer Valley, Utah;
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and Hanalei Plantation, Kauai, Hawaii. Montage developments include lodging
and residential components as well as significant recreational amenities, and encompass well over $2 billion in
total capitalization. Warnick & Company has also overseen the placement of approximately $800 million in debt
and continues to have primary responsibility for financing.
In 2007, Warnick + Company also structured and negotiated the first Montage third-party management with
Cypress Equities for a Montage resort in Royal Island Bahamas. Multiple additional transactions are being
pursued, all under the direction of Warnick + Company as weassist in the development and implementation
of brand and operating strategies (both lodging and residential), as well as identification and closing of
acquisitions and development opportunities. Richard Warnick is one of three shareholders in Montage and
continues in his role as a strategic advisor to the company.
